Screen legend Joe Estevez joins Tim and Gregg for a look at Marvel's biggest blockbuster.

Synopsis

It's back to On Cinema today, brought to you by the Delgado Fund. Tim is joined by Gregg Turkington and Joe Estevez today, and his mood is noticeably more enthusiastic than the past few weeks. He reveals that after last week's episode, he returned the VR equipment to Best Buy with Max Eucompco, then drove himself to the Sixth Street Bridge. Thoroughly “tapped out,” he was preparing to jump off, when he decided to call Mark Dwyer, his former defense attorney, now working with the Delgados.

Tim explained that the Delgados were “sitting on a gold mine,” namely, all of Tim's intellectual property, but it would be worthless without Tim. At 8:00 p.m., he gave Dwyer an hour to make a deal with the Delgados, or he was jumping. At 8:56, Dwyer called Tim back, and explained that a deal had been reached. The Delgados gave Tim 30 days to make On Cinema a quality product, and although they would intensely scrutinize every episode, Tim has seized the opportunity with a renewed zeal. He vows to “make the best show possible” by making the show about movies, talking to experts like Gregg and Joe, and giving expert advice. Noticing Joe holding one of Gregg's movie title hats, he makes him get rid of it. But Tim immediately renews the enthusiasm by praising Gregg (“I don't know anybody that knows more about movies than him!”) and Joe (“and this is a movie STAR!”).

The only film up today is Avengers: Infinity War. Tim says it is one of the best movies of the summer. Gregg enjoyed it too, but says that the other Avengers franchise (the one with Uma Thurman) makes the title a bit confusing. Nevertheless, he says, it is one of the best action-adventure films of all time (although not quite as good as Ant-Man). Joe has not seen the movie yet. Gregg asks for his opinion on these kinds of movies; Joe replies that he's “late to the table” on the genre, opining that today's audiences care less for the plot than the action. He and Gregg start discussing similar movies such as the Fast and Furious franchise; Tim starts to lose patience with the banter.

For On Cinema On Location, Gregg appears at the supermarket where the famous “hot dog bun scene” from Father of the Bride (1991, 105 mins.) was filmed. In the scene, Steve Martin's character is baffled as to why he must buy twelve buns to a pack, when hot dogs are sold in packs of eight. Going inside the store, he finds that the hot dogs are now in packs of eight, proving that the film made a difference.

Tim ends the show by thanking his guests and shaking hands. The atmosphere feels effusive, although Gregg advocates for more movies to be reviewed.
