Take a (simulated) VR tour while enjoying two fresh reviews. Plus Gregg adds a 'creature feature' to the pantheon of Popcorn Classics.
Synopsis
Today's episode is in a dazzling VR format, allowing viewers a 360-degree view of the set. This is all thanks to tech guru Max Eucompco, who approvingly observes the movie-reviewing duo from a director's chair offstage (and who has put the rest of the crew out of a job). Special guest Gregg Turkington is skeptical, wondering how the clips from the movies will be played, but Tim shows unbridled enthusiasm. Tim (who seems to be developing a cough) plugs the germ-slaying Rio-Jenesis product line, thanking them for keeping On Cinema afloat. He bemoans the Delgados having taken over Dekkar and its offshoots, effectively putting the band on indefinite hiatus.
Gregg responds that perhaps Rio-Jenesis “kinda did get rid of bacteria and germs.” Tim then expresses his frustration and disappointment with Gregg, for having “disobeyed” him by wearing yet another movie hat. The so-called hat is in fact a beret, Gregg says, but Tim isn't having it, telling him he looks like a clown. Gregg retorts that Tim, with his comb-over hair and trimmed mustache, looks decidedly Hitlerian.
Tim is taken aback, and says Gregg's comment is tantamount to a racial slur. He finishes with a “f*ck you” before finally moving on to the movies, but first he makes Gregg take off the beret.
Sgt. Stubby: An American Hero is “a dog movie about World War I.” Tim says it wasn't his kind of movie, but “checked off all the boxes” for length, age-appropriateness, and patriotism. Gregg says Sgt. Stubby is “no Benji,” but thought the movie was “very good.” The next film, Overboard, is a remake of an older flick with Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell. Max gives a brief review; “it was great.” Gregg says it was risky to redo a movie with such an iconic duo, but this one paid off. He says it will be “the comedy of the year.”
Tim starts to give Rio-Jenesis a plug, but Gregg interrupts to voice his suspiciousness. He says he has not been reimbursed for going to see the movies, nor has he seen any other material benefit from the company's supposed sponsorship. On top of that, Tim seems under the weather, undercutting the product's “germ-free” claims.
Gregg's Popcorn Classics pick is Creature from the Black Lagoon. He claims that this film is “the original” virtual reality (“called 3D”). He describes the film as a “horrifying” portrayal of a research trip gone awry.
After the lights dim, the two bicker about the new show format, as well as Gregg's comment about Tim's appearance.
